10 Best Books for 10 Year Olds

What are the best books for a 10 year old to read? There are many different books to choose from, and not all of them may be right. This is a list of what I think are the best books a 10 year old should read. 

  1. Restart

Restart is an excellent book by Gordon Korman. It has a really unique plot, about a boy who lost his memory and wishes to restart as a person. It is a realistic-fiction book that has a ton of detail and description, and is super enjoyable to read.

  1. Unplugged

Unplugged is another incredible book by Gordon Korman. It is about a rich boy who has to find out what life is like without having all of your wants fulfilled. A group of kids go to a wellness camp, where they are forced to stop using all devices. For them, this is unthinkable, and they have to find a way to stop this madness. It is really intriguing and interesting to read, and I would definitely recommend reading it.

  1. Resistance 

Resistance is a realistic-fiction book by Jennifer Nielsen about the holocaust in World War 2. It is a story about a Jewish girl in the Resistance, who does her best by traveling between Jewish ghettos, smuggling papers and food. Although, she has little chance of making a large impact on the war, she is determined to make as much of an impact as she can. This book is extremely interesting to read. It brings a new perspective to World War 2, and I really enjoyed reading it.

  1. Keeper of the Lost Cities

Keeper of the Lost Cities is a fantasy book that is at the start of a 10 book long series. It is about a girl who lives in the human world, but discovers that she is actually an elf. After moving, she has to learn how to adapt to their customs and ways. She must face trials and people who wish to kill her, and she doesn’t even know why. It is full of suspense and action, and I enjoyed reading every page.

  1. Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl is one of the best sci-fi books I have ever read. It is so intriguing and interesting to read. It is a perfect fit for any 10 year old that loves sci-fi. It is about a boy who needs money to rescue his father after being captured by the russian mafia. To do so, he must capture a fairy, a mysterious, hidden species that live under the surface of the earth. 

  1. Aru Shah and the End of Time

Aru Shah is an excellent fantasy book written by Roshani Chokshi, complete with Indian mythology. You can learn many fun and interesting facts about Indian culture and mythology. It is a girl who accidentally unleashes a monster upon the earth - her father. She meets gods, fights demons, and travels through dimensions. What more can a 7th grader from New Jersey do? 

  1. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

If you haven’t read Percy Jackson yet, you are in for a real treat. This incredible book by Rick Riordan is one amazing, action-packed, fun filled, and adventurous story. 10 year olds will be especially captivated by the witty jokes and ironic moments. In this book, Percy discovers that Greek gods are real. He also discovers that he’s the son of one of them - Poseidon, god of the sea.

  1. 20000 Leagues Under the Seas

20000 Leagues Under the Seas is a magical novel written by Jules Verne in 1871. It contains machines that very accurately depict many features from today, more than 150 years later. It shows the story of a trio seeking to fight a giant sea monster. However, the monster is a giant submarine, lead by Captain Nemo. When they are brought aboard, they are told they can never leave, to protect his privacy. However, they learn a great deal about the ocean, and even go on a walk in it.

  1. Masterminds

Masterminds is such an amazing book by Gordon Korman. This book is the first in the Masterminds trilogy. It is filled with detail and description, action and adventure, and is super engaging to read. It is perfect for 10 year olds looking for an exciting read. This book is about a group of children living in a perfect town - Serenity, New Mexico. But it turns out everything is not so perfect, and some kids go on a mission to uncover the secrets behind the town. They discover that the town is really an experiment, and they are the subjects. 

  1. Uglies

Last, but certainly not least is Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld. Uglies is a sci-fi book set in the future. Every teenager at the age of 16 under goes a surgery to make their looks flawless - the pretties. However, there is a small group of rebels who fight back against the operation, and refuse to take it. They live hidden in forests far away from civilization, always a nuisance, but never a threat.
