My Volunteering

During 2020 - 2022, I spent many hours volunteering with the non-profit organization Being Social at rural slums in Bangalore, where I taught young children foundational skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and math. Living in slums, the children frequently had little to no education, equipping them with none of the skills necessary to receive a proper education and escape the cycle of poverty. With little knowledge of English, we taught the children about how to spell, different pronunciations, and various common objects. They also learned how to complete more advanced addition and subtraction, as well as simple multiplication and division. We also helped provide educational and fiction story books to the children, where I personally witnessed their first incredibly fun experience with reading. Ultimately we helped over 40 children develop necessary skills to succeed in higher levels of education, setting themselves up for a successful career.
